AARP
An exploration of the shifting employment market for age 50+ workers in America.

Where the Employment Opportunities Exist
AARP needed a way to understand how age 50+ workers could fill in-demand jobs at a national and state level. This tool allows AARP workers to identify which jobs are in demand in their state and understand how skills possessed in related occupations could transfer to these areas of opportunity.

AARP employees can view the top 5 most in-demand jobs for their state ranked in order from most difficult to easiest to fill using a horizontal stacked bar that both visualizes the volume of employment needs and serves as a navigation to reveal details on opportunities for age 50+ workers. This bar allows them to quickly and easily compare different sectors and better understand their demographics.

A detail card highlights where these workers can contribute the selected occupation, providing a quickly scannable overview. Details such as the distribution of workers by age allows AARP to identify and plan for future needs by exposing employment pipeline shortages. In addition, a look at the distribution of workers who are employed, unemployed, or in a related occupation is provided. This view helps AARP quickly understand where to focus its resources for developing training and job placement programs for its members.

Motion design was used to transition between occupations and build graphs and charts, creating an engaging and seem-less experience.
